Digital resources and tools
Here are digital resources and tools you can use to support the project with description as to why the digital resources and tools were chosen:
- Apple iPads – This simple computer tablet is very user friendly. We chose this because they are often available in schools for whole classes and are user friendly for younger elementary level grades.
- iMovie – Fun, easy to use video editor. These apps were chosen because they have simple interfaces that are relatively easy to use. Also, there are many online resources to help with problems in the case troubleshooting is needed. They are also local to the device and don’t need to be downloaded from the internet.
- FreshGrade Digital Portfolios – Stored in Canada, FreshGrade is a preferred portfolio/publishing platform. Access is granted only to parents/guardians via email invitation. Teachers and learners are able to upload work in up to 400MB pieces and parents/guardians with access are able to view and comment. Teachers are able to include a complete description of the activity along with the rubric and final assessment for learners and parents to see. The users retain ownership of their own data.
- Pexels.com – This website offers free Creative Commons images that can be easily downloaded and added/edited into any project. This was chosen so that learners did not steal copyrighted material and to present the opportunity to learn about copyright and creative commons materials.
- freemusicarchive.org – This website offers free Creative Commons music that can be easily downloaded and added/edited into any recorder project. This was chosen so that learners did not steal copyrighted material and to present the opportunity to learn about copyright and creative commons materials.
- Freesound.org – This website offers free Creative Commons sound effects that can be easily downloaded and added/edited into any recorder project. This was chosen so that learners did not steal copyrighted material and to present the opportunity to learn about copyright and creative commons materials.
- Creativecommons.org – This website explains how Creative Commons can be used and explains the different ways it can be utilized. It also provides an image search engine to find creative commons images.
